Today in class we watched a video called "Class Dismissed". This video showed us viewers how race and gender are played in a working class. For example, women and men of different races and cultural are all viewed differently on T.V. shows, such as the "Fresh Prince of Belair". On this particular show it is viewed as wealthy middle class african americans who are living the american dream and having a good life. The video "Class Dismisssed" also talked about how the american dream is played out through the media, how women and their class is viewed on television shows such as "Roseanne", "Friends, and "Sex in the City"; which show a variety of how women work hard but are always getting paid less than the men. After watching this video it brought my attention to how race and gender are played in different working classes on television shows that I watch on my free time. One show that I thought that showed a good example of this is "Sister Sister" on disney channel because they are a middle class african american family where both parents work and the sisters go to school and have jobs of their own. Which results in the basic life that anyone lives in because people choose wether they want to be in a low, middle, or upper class society and everyone knows that living in a lower class in poverty is bad. I choose this T.V. show because it fit right in with the different types of roles that african americans play when shown on T.V. For example, back in the late days, african americans and whites were not seen very wealthy and living in a middle class world, but now in today's society its totally different because they only show wealthy living middle and upper class families. Lower class families are often discluded from this. Overall I think that it does matter how much money a women and a man makes because it affects their future to wether or not they are going to be wealthy and live a happy life.
